Weighing the Pros and Cons of Life Without Facebook, Twitter and Instagram (2 Weeks In).
“I’m going to go home, make some pizza rolls, check Facebook and crash.”
I looked over at my coworker quizzically. We were dead tired, fighting one of those mysterious 11:00 pm traffic jams that pops up out of nowhere in Chicago. After an exhausting night of radio promotion in at the House of Blues, I couldn’t wait to get back to the suburbs, fall into bed and sleep until noon the next day.
The last thing on my mind was checking into the emerging social media network. These were the pre-smartphone (well, if you don’t count Blackberry) days where the only way to access Facebook and Myspace was to use an actual laptop. I distinctly remember Steven twitching like a smoker who was being forced to delay lighting up as he drummed his fingers on the steering wheel in frustration.
It was the first time I’d ever seen someone react to the virtual world with addiction withdrawal like symptoms.
Maybe I should have just seen the handwriting on the wall, and quit cold turkey then.

It’s been two weeks since I deleted my personal Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts.
