This is a story about an ex-girlfriend, job interviews, vegans and Game of Thrones (and LinkedIn).
I once broke up with a girl after I found out her best friend (who was the hiring manager/HR person at her company) would refuse to hire women more attractive than she was. The best friend wasn’t unattractive, just really, really insecure (and mean).
When I found out about the best friend’s unethical hiring methods, I pretty much demanded that my girlfriend confront her over it, or we were going to break up.
We broke up.
The moral of the story is, sometimes you’re just going to get jacked over on something in your career. There’s nothing you can do about it. Doesn’t make it right, but if you get a group of more than two people together…then you open up the possibility of one person not liking the other for a petty reason.
I’m seeing LinkedIn…become Facebook circa 2011. For the most part, this network is still interesting, but with some anger and bitterness starting to creep in. I’m seeing a lot of content about “bringing your whole self” to LinkedIn. Uhhh…really?
